The Walkable Olean Project will rebuild our crumbling water lines, sewer lines, and lighting infrastructure, as well as restore downtown North Union with traffic safety improvements and beautification investments. This is an $8.8 million project, funded with a $6.5 million federal grant (TIGER grant), $1.2 million City capital funds, and $1.1 million State and private funds.

We're excited that the Olean Common Council accepted the federal TIGER grant and we are moving forward with this project. Through this website and our Facebook page, we plan to keep the community informed regarding project progress and answer questions.

More than 30 North Union Street Merchants recently gathered to discuss the vision for the North Union Street Restoration project and how the downtown area can be transformed. Their input and feedback are vital to the overall success of this project, and we thank them for their continuing participation.

The project steering committee for the North Union Street Restoration project also met recently to give input to the project designers on street amenities such as lighting, benches, bike racks and potential lighting ideas for Santa Claus Lane. The conversation provided creative ideas for the design and helped move the City of Olean closer to a new and improved North Union Street.

We are looking forward to sharing the design with the community at a public meeting in early March. Thank you to everyone for their continued involvement in what is becoming a very exciting project for Olean's future!
