Description

Wellsboro is a small formerly industrial town in north-central Pennsylvania. As industry declined, the town tried to take advantage of other assets, namely its proximity to natural attractions such as Pine Creek Gorge (known as the 'Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania'), as well as numerous trails, lakes, and other outdoor amenities.

Little of this mattered, however, if the town itself wasn't an interesting place to be. Leaders decided to invest in their downtown, installing a wide median in the half-mile stretch of Main Street. This included a row of historic gas lanterns, now a signature part of the identity of the town. Old storefronts were restored, and the Wellsboro Historic District is as healthy and thriving as it has ever been.
